Stepping back in time- Pompeii

Stepping back in time- Pompeii

January 28, 2019

We arrived in Pompeii in time for a snack and some Limoncello tasting, Maria gave us some Sfogliatelle -a shell-shaped filled Italian pastry native to Campania. We met our local specialist Enrico, a colorful man with an array of funny sayings, "Okie dokie artichoke" call me "Mario Poppins" (because he carried a gray umbrella) "Andiamo", "piano, piano". Enrico was not only funny but very knowledgeable on all things Pompeii.

Once a thriving, sophisticated city, Pompeii was buried under tons of ash and pumice after the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 A.D.

we explored the ruins of the small theater or Odeon first

We walked the streets imagining how life was back then

We toured one house were you could still see the paintings on the walls

pool in the middle of the room (water would collect there from the rain)

We toured one of the first spas - a thermal bath!

These are lockers!

We also toured the Lunapare - the best organized of Pompeii's brothels, erotic paintigs can still be seen on the walls!

View of the Temples of Apollo and Jupiter

After a super interesting day, we drove back to Rome.....
