We added a side trip to visit the fountains of Rome and other treasures with our local guide Susana. The coach drove us to the center of Rome where Susana took us on a walking tour.
All around Rome, you can get fresh drinking water from this fountains, here is Susana showing us how it works.
No visit to Rome can be completed until you visit the famous Fountain of Trevi
and of course, throw your coins in it...don't forget to make a wish!
One for my Bucs!
Included in this tour was a visit to The Pantheon, a pagan temple, now a church (we had to wait outside until mass finished to be able to enter) This building is quite interesting, the dome has a hole at the center, called the Oculus (the only source of light in the building)
This is the tomb of the painter Raphael
Our walk ended on the famous Piazza Navona and Bernini's fountain of the four rivers. The four rivers anthropologically depicted-the Nile, the Ganges, the Danube, and the Rio de la Plata.
We ended the evening with a view of St Peters Basilica from the bridge at sunset, no picture can make it justice, it was divine!
